The RINA Test Laboratory was established in 1965 as the Fire Research Laboratory, originally with the aim of providing Italian industry, with a site where materials used in the structural fire protection of ships could be tested in accordance with applicable national and international testing procedures and standards.

The application of the requirements of the UNI EN ISO/IEC 17025 reference standard and other applicable documents is intended to consolidate customer faith in the testing activities carried out by accredited laboratories, as well in their impartiality and the integrity of associated technical and commercial operations.
The accreditation certifies the technical competence of the Laboratory to carry out those tests indicated in the accreditation scope and the implementation within the Llboratory itself of a quality management system aligned to the UNI EN ISO 9001 principles.
