ESG & Sustainability

Our approach to Sustainability

Our path towards sustainability involves both internal and external measures.

Internally, it means initiatives designed to increase awareness of more sustainable ways to approach our business and carry out our activities.

Externally, it means developing innovative external services which generate positive outcomes for our customers’ projects and businesses, as well as for our stakeholders, society and the environment.

Sustainability Report

RINA Sustainability Report is an engaging narrative that unfolds RINA's commitment to a sustainable future. Published voluntarily every year since 2017, it is a testament to the Company's dedication to transparency and stakeholder engagement.
Through the report, we transparently share our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint, promote diversity and inclusion, and ensure ethical governance. Looking to the future, the report will continue to be a beacon of RINA's enduring values and relentless pursuit of excellence and value creation.
In 2024, the report evolved into a strategic instrument aligned with the European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and it was further enriched by a double materiality assessment and a comprehensive taxonomy analysis, ensuring that RINA’s sustainability strategy is both data-driven and stakeholder-informed.

RINA Sustainability Strategic Plan 2025–2030

RINA’s commitment to sustainability is outlined in a strategic plan that sets short-, medium-, and long-term goals to guide the transition toward a more sustainable future. The Plan is structured into six distinct paths:

1. Ethics and Strategy: ethical aspects in corporate strategy.
2. Sustainable Supply Chain: collaboration with suppliers to implement sustainable practices.
3. Decarbonization and Energy Transition: RINA’s decarbonization plan in line with the Paris Agreements.
4. DEI&B and Personal Enhancement: valuing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within the company.
5. Personnel Wellbeing: improving the quality of life of personnel.
6. Communication: dissemination of the sustainability strategy.

Sustainable Governance

RINA adopts a transformative sustainability governance model, based on an ESG Committee and a multidisciplinary Working Group involving all major corporate and business functions. The double materiality analysis, conducted according to the most advanced European standards, enables the identification of risks and opportunities relevant to the company and its stakeholders. Active stakeholder engagement takes place through structured consultations and partnerships. The global dimension ensures consistency and impact across all activities. This governance promotes transparency, inclusion, and shared value, positioning RINA as a responsible player in the sustainable transition.

A signatory to the United Nations Global Compact since 2016

We have been a signatory of the UN Global Compact since 2016. We are committed to making sustainability one of the key drivers of our business strategy, and to ensuring this approach is reflected in the services we deliver to our clients.

We actively support the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact relating to human rights, labour standards, the environment, and the fight against corruption.

Progress on implementing these principles is reported annually to our Stakeholders.

In November 2024, RINA was officially welcomed among the Founding Members of the UN Global Compact Network Italy, the national chapter of the UNGC. This milestone further strengthens RINA’s role in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and reinforces its leadership in advancing ethical, inclusive, and transparent business practices within the Italian and international sustainability community.

Science Based Target initiative

In January 2023, we committed to the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The SBTi defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting and independently assesses companies’ decarbonization targets.

In April 2025, RINA S.p.A. approved near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets with the SBTi.

Stakeholder Engagement

RINA's approach to Stakeholder Engagement is defined in our Stakeholder Engagement Policy and Stakeholder Engagement Plan, which outline our commitment to building trustful and transparent relationships with all Stakeholders.

We believe that building trustworthy relationships with our Stakeholders is a necessary foundation to develop and improve our long-term sustainability operations and strategy, as well as a vital tool in identifying our impacts, risks and opportunities in greater detail.
