The new and promising prospect of tandem solar panels

We are a company built on the quality of our people and the dissemination of knowledge. For this reason, we are delighted to share the publication by Carlos David Rodriguez Gallegos in ‘Nature Reviews Clean Technology’, a journal from the Nature portfolio.

Perovskite-based multi-junction solar cells’ is a study that explores the current state and prospects of tandem photovoltaic (PV) technologies. The research features collaboration with RINA, the National University of Singapore (Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore), the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Concordia University.

Tandem photovoltaic technologies are structures that utilize multiple layers of solar cells to capture different parts of the solar spectrum, converting it into a greater amount of electrical energy.

The article outlines the advantages and technological challenges of these systems and anticipates the central role of the market and commercial interest in emerging sectors. The paper includes an in-depth analysis of modeling and simulation of PV technology performance under various atmospheric conditions across different regions.

The results show that triple-junction tandem devices can deliver over 30% higher energy yields compared to the current industry standard - silicon single-junction PV - highlighting their practical and commercial relevance.
