A new a center of excellence in Umbria (Terni) for the design and implementation of sustainable technologies for the production of special steels
Challenge
The TecSpAS project is an Industrial Research (IR) and Experimental Development (ED) project, funded by the Umbria Region as part of the “Piano Sviluppo e Coesione FSC ex DGR n. 251/2021 – AVVISO RICERCA 2020”.
The project intends to develop a center of excellence in Umbria (Terni) for the design and implementation of sustainable technologies for the production of special steels such as:
- NGO magnetic steels,
- stainless steels and carbon steels.
Our role in the project
In the TecSpAS project, metallurgical models will be developed for the simulation of recrystallization and grain growth phenomena and mechanical properties, of special and carbon steels, in continuous annealing manufacturing processes.
Furthermore, innovative manufacturing cycles with reduced energy impact and polluting emissions will be studied, implementing continuous annealing heat treatments, with Ultra Rapid Induction Annealing (URA), through pilot line experimental simulations (RINA-CSM).
Expected results
The know-how and experimental equipment that will be implemented within the project (atmosphere control system and sample handling system in the URA section of the Pilot Line) will allow to obtain a set of advanced theoretical and experimental tools, for the study and production of new grades, as well as for Special/Carbon Steel innovative manufacturing cycles (Eco-sustainable cycles).
