SMARTeeSTORY project aims to target historical non-residential buildings by promoting solutions that effectively combine energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, digital and smart technologies. These efforts are directed at facilitating the digital transformation of the building stock toward achieving climate neutrality.
In particular, the Project Consortium will develop a smart integrated building automation and control system. This system will monitor and optimize the energy performance of historic non-residential buildings using an innovative multi-domain approach. It will consider the specific requirements of historic buildings, as well as the needs of occupants, incorporating real-time and active user engagement.
The outcomes of the project will be validated through real-life demonstrations on three non-residential historic buildings located in Latvia, Spain, and The Netherlands.
Our role in the project involves RINA acting as the Project Coordinator for SMARTeeSTORY.
We will manage and coordinate both the project and the consortium to ensure steady progress toward the project's intended goals.
Additionally, we will provide the necessary informatics skills to develop the digital software architecture of the SMARTeeSTORY system. As a significant consultancy partner, we will contribute extensive industrial expertise in setting up project demonstrators and formulating a robust strategy for exploiting project results.
In conclusion, SMARTeeSTORY will play a pivotal role in digitizing the built environment, focusing on historic buildings that have been slower to adapt to green and digital transitions. The monitoring and control strategies will prioritize a human-centered approach, taking into account the needs of building occupants and owners. Their active involvement and feedback will be instrumental in enhancing Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) for increased comfort and well-being, alongside operational cost reduction.
Digitizing historic buildings will lead to energy savings in scenarios where energy renovation might not be feasible, thereby aligning with the EU's long-term decarbonization objectives while enhancing citizens' quality of life. In this context, the SMARTeeSTORY project will facilitate the transition toward efficient and sustainable energy use by widely disseminating its innovative smart solution.
Finally, SMARTeeSTORY will establish an adaptable and replicable technological infrastructure, driven by green and digital technologies. This infrastructure will effectively enhance energy efficiency in historic buildings while remaining compliant with key preservation principles.
