Nowadays there is a need to develop, upscale and demonstrate in relevant industrial environments reliable manufacturing processes to obtain nanostructured surfaces with mechanically enhanced properties.
“ReSiSTant” has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 760941 and it targets the optimization of two industrial pilot lines by using micro- and nanostructured surfaces for drag reduction.
The new developed surfaces will be implemented into:
In particular ReSiSTant will develop innovative Riblet surfaces, which consist of tiny streamwise grooved surfaces which reduce the drag in the turbulent boundary layer of up to 8%.
Surface modifications such as riblets are the most promising technology that could be applied without additional external energy or additional amount of air.
In the framework of ReSiSTant, RINA is in charge of Upscaling and market exploitation activities, numerical analyses, social and environmental analyses, and activities capitalizing the expertise of CSM in material analyses and nanosafety.
Moreover, we are also supporting the Coordinator in the project management.
In conclusion, the usage of such surface developed in the framework of “ReSiSTant” could give benefits in terms of efficiency, CO2 reduction and noise emission and further on a positive economic and ecological impact.
