Challenge
Individuals, communities and local authorities are at the vanguard of EU’s energy transition: they are increasingly controlling and producing their own renewable energy and fostering the transition to fairer and decentralised energy.
For this reason, Local RES has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 957819 to deploy innovative local energy systems driven by renewable energy communities for a socially fair energy transformation that puts renewable energy into the hands of communities and people. LocalRES will deliver new digital tools that will boost the expected structural change in the current energy system.
The Local RES tools will be then proved in relevant environments through their implementation in 4 different demosites situated in:
- Kökar (Finland)
- Berchidda (Italy)
- Ispaster (Spain)
- Ollersdorf (Austria)
Approach
In the framework of Local RES project, RINA is in charge of the following main activities:
- boosting replication potential of Local RES concept
- identifying lessons learnt and recommendations
- performing cost-benefit analysis of project Use Cases
Conclusion
Local RES will identify sustainable energy solution to boost renewable transition within communities.
Thanks to its two main pillars, the technological one and the social one, a tool for developing energy communities will be produced allowing optimization of energy vectors together with buildings/user requirements.
