Nanofabrication refers to the design process of nanomaterials and devices that are measured in nanometers. It has the potential to make a significant impact in a multitude of diverse areas and to tackle major socio-economic challenges for an ever improving yet affordable health care, higher standards of living and quality consumer goods, cleaner energy and transport. For example, nano-enabled composites can improve the performance and durability of windturbine blades.
For this reason, SUSNANOFAB has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 882506 to tackle all technological and non-technological issues of the nanofabrication value chain, facilitating interactions among stakeholders.
In particular, the Project Consortium will develop a sustainable digital platform offering cross-sectoral transfer scouting to promote new technologies, access to infrastructure and brokerage and training services. The project will deliver a comprehensive “Roadmap for an EU wide strategy on nanofabrication” including a focus on the health care and nano-safety sector. Finally, the SUSNANOFAB project will carry out an impact assessment on strategic sectors taking also into account the COVID-19 impact”.
RINA is the Project Coordinator of SUSNANOFAB and we are going to manage and coordinate the project and the consortium to ensure the progress of the project towards its planned goals.
Moreover, we are in charge of the roadmapping, brokerage and international cooperation activities.
In conclusion, SUSNANOFAB project will contribute to upscale nanofabrication technologies and integrate them into complex systems able to manufacture industrially relevant products with high social, environmental and economic impact by means of different activities.
Last but not least, SUSNANOFAB will establish and promote a sustainable ecosystem integrating different stakeholders in the domain of nano-fabrication– such as research organisations, industry, pilot production facilities, policy makers, mainly through the SUSNANOFAB Digital Platform, conceived to be financially sustainable after the project ending.
