Hybuild

Innovative compact Hybrid electrical/thermal storage systems for low energy buildings

Business Project Coordinator Funding Scheme
T&I COMSA Corporation H2020
Call: EEB-06-2017

Challenge

HYBUILD focuses on the development of two innovative compact hybrid electrical/thermal storage systems for stand-alone and district connected buildings. The project aims at developing cost-effective and environmental-friendly solutions, while ensuring comfort conditions in residential buildings located in two different climates: Mediterranean climate where cooling is critical; and Continental climate where a stronger focus is put on heating demand.

Approach

RINA, as leader of Work Package 1 “KPIs: Building and systems requirements” will conduct the analysis of the application context and requirements of the Hybuild systems. The contexts will be described according to a broad approach: climates, buildings and uses. The requirements will be proposed integrating technical, regulation and certifications issues. Finally, Key Performance Indicators (KPI) will be defined in order to ensure a proper assessment of the impact of the solutions, as a function of the various cases of application.

Conclusion

HYBUILD will contribute to produce robust and innovative energy storage solutions presenting the following characteristics and advantages:

  • cost-effectiveness supported by advanced economic and business models for investors
  • high replicability potential to ensure an important market penetration
  • easy integration (compact solutions) into existing buildings/systems
  • extended solution life time
  • superior energy performance contributing to the overall energy system flexibility
  • reduction of building energy consumption and greenhouse gases.

HYBUILD innovations will be validated in three demo sites in Almatret (Spain), Aglantzia Municipality (Cyprus) and Bordeaux (France).
