Challenge

The objective of the EBSF_2 project is to validate different innovative solutions that combine efficiency of the bus system with more attractiveness.

Approach

RINA will contribute to set-up a realistic certification process for individual EBSF products and for related system level applications.
Such certification will be based on functional tests in line with the recalled CEN EN13149 requirements and carried out in a reference laboratory equipped with an EBSF compliant Test Bench.
More in detail the participation of RINA will be focused on the IT Certification and Standardization Follow-up.
The activities will be aimed to the definition of the main aspects of the certification like scope and aim, typology, approach, objects and actors involved, Boundaries and Constraints, Activities and Responsibility, Validity of the Certificates, Certification and Accreditation Bodies and Laboratories.

Conclusion

By involving 12 demonstration sites with more than 500 vehicles with the related interfaces towards garage
(for maintenance) and urban infrastructure (like bus-stops and terminal), EBSF_2 greatly contribute to:

  • new product developments, such as new full electric buses, next generation hybrids, and new IT standard equipments with the relative certification process;
  • new developments in the city, such as the full-electric line with in-door bus-stop in Gothenburg (ElectriCity project);
  • setting the basis for new large tenders and acquisitions, such as the renewal of the IT systems of the entire London bus fleet and the development of guidelines for including energy aspects in tender processes;
  • the introduction and evolution of standards, in particular the activities in CEN (TC278WG3) vis-a-vis the evolution of EN13149, SIRI and NeTex standards1 and in ACEA (HDEI / BCEI) for Bus-FMS;
  • initiatives and projects, for example complementing eBUS in Helsinki and ZeEUS in Barcelona;
  • significant steps towards the introduction of breakthrough innovations, such as the first prototype of the modular bus, the production of guidelines for ergonomic driver assistance systems (in collaboration with the drivers’ Union representatives) and the use of augmented reality and autonomous movements in bus garage;
  • study how opportunities created by electric propulsion make buses not only clean but also more attractive
