In March 2018, the European Commission adopted the “Action Plan on Financing Sustainable Growth” to improve the flow of investments towards sustainable activities and thus use financial instruments to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
A key role in this strategy is played by the EU Taxonomy Regulation (for sustainable activities), which defines the criteria for determining whether an economic activity can be considered environmentally sustainable to identify the degree of sustainability of an investment (Article 1 Regulation (EU) 2020/852 of 18 June 2020). The verification of the declaration of alignment of one or more investments to the Taxonomy is a systematic, independent and documented process for the purpose of issuing an opinion on the completeness, accuracy and verifiability of the information and data contained therein.
